Executive Coach News – Getting SMART With Goal-Setting
Filed Under Business Coach | Posted on September 8, 2011
Executive coach Randi Raskin Nash says that if you want to get things accomplished before the end of the year, you need to be smart about it. SMART is an acronym to keep in mind when setting goals, personal or professional. There are actually many effective variations for what it stands for, but here’s one that tried and true: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound. A quick Google search will yield other variations (e.g., Significant, Motivating, Agreed Upon, Realistic, and Trackable) since SMART goal setting has been around for quite a while. However you spell it, it’s a great place to begin in working towards setting and achieving what matters most to you.
So how does SMART work? Here’s a look at the five parts of the goal-setting mnemonic:
Business Experience Verses Business Education

Many years ago I had a friend who was extremely intelligent, had a photographic memory, and finished university with top marks in business administration. He had all the credentials to get a great job.
Sounds good for the most part, wouldn’t you say!! Maybe even a nice boy who you would want to marry your daughter!! Shortly after finishing school he landed a job working for the owner of this large company, whose business did millions a year in revenue.

The person he worked for was old world, very little formal business education, and built a wonderful business from scratch. He was shrewd person with tons of business experience under his belt. After working there awhile my friend decides that he can really make a difference in this man’s business.

There are some essential items and characteristics to look for in a business coaching certification. We will address those there. There are tons and tons of certification courses out there, from small business coaching, management coaching, corporate coaching and the list goes on and on. These traits are essential to find the highest quality coaching certification available.
Desired Outcomes
Business Coach
The first thing to look for is your own personal desired outcomes. What do you want to achieve? This is the most important question. Believe it or not there are many certification companies that cannot give you the desired outcomes that you are looking for. What type of results and students is the business coaching producing. If they are not the results or students that you wish to mimic then it is not the training for you.
Maintaining an Ethical Business Practice
Filed Under Business Coach | Posted on August 25, 2011
In a society is advocating for “every man for him” maintaining ethical business practice is becoming a thing of the past. The belief that “the ends justify the means” only supports the lack of integrity in all areas including business. Much of our society has lost their moral compass therefore; organizations are not pursuing towards the ultimate level of integrity and quality in their products or services. We are living in a cut throat self serving society. Leaders have no reservations in stating half truths without conviction. Leaders have to take into consideration that all the time it takes to build a business and/or career can be damaged when one’s reputation is tainted.
What’s in a Name? Business Coach or Business Consultant?

As a business coach, I am often mistaken for a business “consultant.” I am quick to make the distinction of the stark contrasts between the two professions.
Before I dive into the differences between the professions, it is important to note that they do have at least one thing in common: both business consultants and business coaches are agents of change. They have been hired to help move an individual, group or company from where they currently are to where they want to be. The differences lie in the inherent relationship between the client and the consultant/coach and the tactics used to achieve change.

If you want success in the coaching business, you need a business plan. It’s that simple. I know that taking the time to create a planning document may seem unproductive, but it is not. This is something you need to do in order to build life you want. The truth is it takes real effort to build your life coaching business and a business plan will create a path that leads straight to success.
The fact is that successful life coaches have a business plan and they use it to help them organize their business and boost their income. Understanding How The Coachee Feels
Filed Under Business Coach | Posted on August 8, 2011
I recently had a conversation with a manger we were training as a coach who was concerned at the level of apathy and even hostility his coachees were displaying. He explained that the normal reaction to being coached was for his staff to cross their arms, lean back in their chairs and adopt an almost ‘bet you can’t coach me!’ attitude. No doubt these same people would leave the coaching conversation thinking ‘See. I’ve won. You can’t coach me!’ How sad.
I suggested that he adopt a less well known coaching tool called Transposing to help him work this through.

Transposing works by getting you to adopt another person’s viewpoint and ask: What am I thinking, what am I feeling and what do I want?
